@DiamondRim wrote I am deeply saddened to hear the tragic news of the passing of Wilson Gavin this morning. My thoughts and deep condolences are with his family and friends at this tragic time.We all need to band together at this awful, difficult time.
@jennineak wrote Sad news about Wilson Gavin. We can strongly dislike people’s actions but what I’ve been seeing over the years from online “cancelling” is that it doesn’t allow young people to grow or redeem themselves. We don’t know why he did what he did, but get this: everyone is problematic-
@nicklaurie wrote Yes, it is tragic that Wilson Gavin felt he had no option but to commit suicide. But, I wonder how many of these loud liberals mourning him have mourned the death of a single LGBT Member who has committed suicide over bullying spurred by the Liberal/conservative mindset.
@nicolleearle wrote To the family of Wilson Gavin, my deepest condolences. To his fellow protestors: do you now see that what these beautiful queens were doing yesterday? Promoting love, inclusion & acceptance in order to prevent the immeasurable tragedy of suicide. #LGTBI
Liz Saunders wrote Make no mistake, Gavin Wilson was not a saint and I will not be removing any negative mention towards him or his fellow #YoungLiberals. Perhaps in a world where religion didn’t cause so much hate in his heart, he could have learned to love himself and others.
SCOTT CHRISTIAN ANDERSON wrote Yesterday bigotry was on full display. We must get beyond BLIND HATE. The LN UQ Club President Wilson Gavin took own life in the aftermath. A life ended in utterly tragic circumstances. HATE cannot be appeased with SILENCE but the RESPECT denied can also be best exemplified now.
The #DragStoryTime news last night really struck a chord for me regarding vilification of queer people. But the Wilson Gavin update is truly heart breaking, again rooted in vilification and misunderstanding. Internalised homophobia doesn’t come from nowhere. Rest In Peace, Gavin. https://t.co/nrLpyQvjVP
